Summary: Police constable died in an accident in 1992 -MACT dismissed the petition seeking compensation filed in 2002 filed by his mother as barred by time -High Court dismissed her appeal - In her appeal, SC invoked Article 142 powers and directed State of Punjab to pay a lump-sum compensation of Rs.5 lakhs to the appellant within a period of 60 days. On doing so, the appellant shall have no claim whatsoever under the Motor Vehicles Act and/or under service jurisprudence, except that whatever has already been granted to her shall continue to operate.
